Collect calls are expensive and most college dorms assess surcharges for toll calls placed from the room. A Family Toll Free number allows your kids to call home anytime from anywhere in the continental United States. You'll pay just 4.9 cents per minute, which is charged to your First Step account.


You or a family member travels
Eliminate the excessive fees and high rates at hotels by dialing your own "toll free" number when you want to call home. Talk as long as you wish for only 4.9 cents per minute, which will be billed to your First Step account, not to your hotel bill.

Your parents or children do not live nearby
Perhaps you would like your children or aging parents to call you more, without their bills going up. If it would otherwise be long distance for them to call you, offer them your Family Toll Free number, and tell them you'll be picking up the charges. You'll pay just 4.9 cents per minute when your Family Toll Free number is called.

If you already have an active First Step account, click here to go to the "Members Only" Home Page. Log into the Account Manager with your username and password. Click on "Authorize Long Distance Service" to access the authorization form. After we receive that online authorization, we'll e-mail your new Family Toll Free number within two business days.

Yes! Your Family Toll Free number can ring to your house, your secondary residence, your cell phone, any phone within the continental United States. All charges associated with your Family Toll Free number will be directly billed to your First Step account. No, an additional line is not needed. Your Family Toll Free number will ring in on your existing phone line.
